New Design Build - Oakville
This new single family home was the construction project of a local builder. The interior was a blank slate when finished, ready for custom furnishings specified and provided by Margot Designs.
Many elements come into play to achieve a good design outcome; the architecture itself, and how the spaces will be used. It is very important for designers to understand the clients they are working for. Many ideas are reviewed, but ultimately the overall design has to be practical as well as magazine ready.
Decorating the main level for a family of four on the go meant introducing leather bar stools for bites on the run. Off white furniture creates the spacious feel to the room, but micro fibre upholstery is spot cleanable when needed.
A dark wood coffee table mirrors the dark wood dining table and chairs, providing a stunning contrast to the off whites throughout, while maintaining a good flow through to each room on the main floor. The interior design in this case provides a welcome home for family, but elegant casual entertaining for guests.
In the lower level of the interior we used a decorating style that was practical for teenage parties and movie nights, reflective of a young but sophisticated contemporary styling. The third bedroom on the second floor was converted into a retreat for the parents own movie night. We included in the design of the built-ins, a small lap top area and storage for files, and DVD’s.
Original artwork was selected by Margot and the client from a local gallery. Ultimately good interior design does not come in a program format, but is a reflection of the people who inhabit the space, and the decorating ability of the designer.
