New Design Build - Niagara

This project was a complete new build on the escarpment, totaling 8000 sq. ft. of main floor living space. Construction of a home of this scale can take up to two years to complete. The contractors on this project had the complete building done in one year.

Construction sites are typically stop and start. The general contractor on this build ran a well oiled machine. As the designer on the project, many months were spent sourcing and specifying all fixtures and fittings for the home. Furnishings were custom made to suit the scale of the interior.

Most ceilings were 10’ or higher. The barrel ceiling in the living room was 17’ high and the room itself measured 30 x 50’. Most furniture on the market would be dwarfed by the expansive rooms and therefore everything in the interior in terms of cabinets, sideboards, tables and sofas were designed and built with this in mind.

Unlike remodeling projects, the architect is central to the contractors framework on new construction. However, there are many decisions along the way which require and allow for the creative problem solving of a contractor and designer.

This was a core slab home complete with an indoor salt water pool and amazing views from the oversized grand windows on every side.
